Intel Magdeburg fab cancellation (24 July 2025)
Claim
Intel’s new CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, formally cancelled Intel’s planned €30+ billion “Silicon Junction” chip factory in Magdeburg, Germany (first announced in March 2022), along with a €4.6 billion assembly-and-test plant near Wrocław, Poland — part of a 15% staff cut down to about 75,000 employees. Intel said it had “decided not to move forward with previously planned projects in Germany and Poland” because “the company invested too much, too soon — without adequate demand.” Intel gave up roughly €10 billion in German EU Chips Act subsidies and $1.9 billion in EU state aid earmarked for Poland.
