ISO/IEC 42001:2023 — AI Management System
Claim
Published by ISO and IEC in December 2023. The first international AI management standard a company can actually be certified against. It is laid out the same way as ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 (the common “Annex SL” structure): Clauses 4–10 (Context, Leadership, Planning, Support, Operation, Performance Evaluation, Improvement) plus Annex A controls covering reducing bias, transparency, accountability, and data governance. Certification usually lasts three years, with yearly check-up audits in between. Microsoft 365 Copilot was certified in 2025.
