Sovereignty incidents — hardware, export controls, supply chain
Nvidia H20 / AMD MI308 revenue-share deal (11 August 2025)
Claim
President Trump announced that Nvidia would pay the US government 15% of what it earns from selling H20 chips to China, with AMD agreeing to the same 15% on MI308 sales. This was a fundamental shift — from banning these exports to taxing them. In the previous quarter (April 2025), export controls had blocked roughly $2.5 billion of H20 sales to China from showing up in Nvidia’s results.
